Library Advocacy Items and Supporting Resources

and…

a GREAT Post from Future Ready Librarians on Facebooks – from the Mouths of Librarians!

I’ve see a lot of various comments that have had me thinking and was wondering where people stand on these questions—
1. How important do you think certification for a school librarian is?
2. What did you learn in your certification program that you wouldn’t necessarily know if you didn’t get certified?
See the post I reproduced with some great answers from those in the field – found here:

“Libraries aren’t just for books. They’re often spaces that transform into what you need them to be: a classroom, a cyber café, a place to find answers, a quiet spot to be alone. It’s actually kind of magical. This week, we have stories of people who roam the stacks and find unexpected things that just happen to be exactly what they required.”

On a near-basis, you can find news articles about school districts cutting librarians or even closing their libraries.  Some relocate the monies to other programs in the school, some just cut the budgets entirely, and others reinvest in facilities and football fields.

Yet, there is rarely an uproar among parents, simply because they are not aware of the consequences of these actions.  In many cases, even district leaders have no clue what librarians can do.
